Once the images were aligned using ruler guidelines, the next step was to create the face grid.

The human face has a very complex muscle structure, muscles 'flow' in directions around the facial features, allowing flexibility of movement and control.

I started to mark out the creases and other noticeable marks on the face (around features etc.) This was then extended by dividing the areas between the marked out creases into 'Quads'..

The quads also represent the muscle flow of the face structure, you can see how the quads flow in certain directions to mimic the way the skin is wrapped around muscle, bone and cartilige.

This has proven to be a very time-consuming and tricky task, that requires careful analysis of the muscle structure of a human face.

  1. Good to see that you have looked at the muscle structure - as this will help with your mapping.
